Full day expeditions below Gavins Point

MRE offers guided kayak expeditions every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on 3 different 12 mile portions of Wild and Scenic Missouri River between Yankton SD and Ponca NE. No experience is necessary. Day trips cost $70 (plus 7% tax) and last approximately 7 hours. All day trips include a river hardened guide, top notch equipment, lunch, shuttles, and competent instruction on efficient paddling and river safety.

Extended day expeditions

The Gavins Point route offer many invaluable benefits that other routes do not offer. Overnights at HQ offer paddlers bathroom and shower facilities, numerous sleeping arrangements, shelter from storms, put-in and take-out flexibility, and feature wood fired cuisine on Friday and Saturday night. Evening entertainment is available upon request including live music, Native storytelling, period re-enactments, Tai Chi and Kung Fu workshops, star gazing with an astronomer, survival workshops and much more. We recommend that large groups and families with children opt for camping at HQ.

Goat Island Adventure

Not for the faint of heart! Day 1 consists of a 16 mile trek from Riverside Park in Yankton to Goat Island and includes lunch on route at HQ. MRE staff will shuttle gear, set up a base camp, and prepare a splendid meal on Beaver Beach. After a hearty breakfast guests will paddle either 6-17 miles depending on the weather and the group. Goat Island offers complete solitude, miles of hiking, safe, clean beaches, and hordes of wildlife. This is an adventure to remember. Experience the Missouri in its most natural state. Wilderness facilities only, plan on river bathing (biodegradeable soap only please!)

3-day Expedition below Ft. Randall

This is our premier trip featuring gourmet meals prepared and served by our outdoor gourmets. Travel expedition style along 39 miles of pristine Missouri River and camp at multiple campsites along the way. You will be waited on hand and foot by a team of MRE staff (1:6, guide:guest.) This is the perfect mix of luxury and adventure on this premier stretch of river below Ft. Randall.
Minimum of 6 guests, maximum of 12
Cost: $400 per person

Gourmet Dinner or Brunch Paddle

Enjoy a splendid meal prepared and served in our wood fired brick oven on the banks of the Mighty Mo at HQ. A dinner paddle includes a magnificent meal after spending the twilight hours exploring one of our favorite portions of river behind the James River Island. A brunch paddle includes an early morning put in and an 8 mile paddle back to HQ for a tremendous spread of mouth watering creations by MRE's outdoor gourmets.

3-4 Hour Day, sunset, or Full Moon Expeditions

These trips are one of our most popular offerings! Guests will paddle from Riverside Park in Yankton down to MRE HQ. This trip includes on water instruction and all necessary paddling and safety equipment. No meals are included. Guests are invited to pack snacks and lunches when applicable.
Cost: $50 per person (when available)

Rock Climbing-Missouri River Rocks

MRE is proud to announce our newest recreational offering as a 500sq ft climbing wall constructed indoors at our headquarters south of Gayville. The cost is $15 per person for a 1 hour session of wall time, a certified belayer, climbing shoes, harness, and competent instruction if desired. Student discounts and monthly memberships are available. I am proud to announce that Bo Fuks, one of the states premier climbers will be maintaining and managing the wall all year long. River Walk-About

This trip can be customized for each group. Rates start at $15 per person when available. A river walk-about can be as leisurely or strenuous as each group desires. Guests will travel .5-3 river miles by land and water. Guests will hike, swim, and float down river with one of MRE’s seasoned river runners. The day’s discussion can involve any number of topics like, river management, local history, native tribes, endangered species, and much more.

All trips include a river hardened guide, top notch equipment, lunch, shuttles, and competent instruction on efficient paddling and river safety.
Day trips cost $70 and last 6-7 hours. A full day and overnight costs $125 per day and includes tent camping, dinner, and breakfast. Tipi and air conditioned cabin rentals are available for an additional charge. (Guests staying offsite will be charged $100 instead of $125 for an overnight.) Group rates are available. Children under 12 receive a 15% discount.

Private Kayak Workshop with Chad Cadwell

Receive one on one instruction in a calm backwater environment from seasoned kayaker Chad Cadwell. Each workshop will be specifically designed to the wants and needs of each student. Topics include; boats, strokes, safety practices and procedures, rescues, capsize recovery, navigation, trip planning, and more.
